Hidden Treasures - Calero Reservoir

Being that Calero Reservoir is only at 47% capacity it gives us the opportunity to view structure(s) that aren’t usually visible. Hidden treasures is what I like to call it. Take a look at some of these photos and keep in mind that this is just the tip of the iceberg. There must be tons of hiding and breeding places for these bass. Typically Calero is full of vegetation and quite often you’ll find yourself spending quite a bit of time on cleaning your lure. However, right now it’s a different story. You’d be lucky to find anything green in that lake at the moment and most of the fish we caught today were actually feeding on muddy banks out in the open.
The cool thing about these photos is that when we go back to the lake when it’s completely filled with water we have something to use as reference. Of course we typically fish points, sediment transitions (rock->sand->mud->etc…), and drop offs but knowing exactly where a particular structure is gives you a “one up” while on the lake. When we bought our Crestliner we had them install some Lowrance electronics which also help us peer into the depths to see just exactly what’s down there. In fact, just today while we were driving around the lake we discovered a creek channel we had never fished. Moments later we went back to fish it and my brother pulled one in the boat in no time.
I guess what I am getting at is that we all know structure is important and that we can work it 100 different ways. I just thought it was pretty cool to see where these guys will be hiding over the next couple of months (provided we get enough rain). Another cool thing about the Lamiglas I have is that I can now feel EVERYTHING as my lure slides across the bottom. I can feel rocks, grass, branches, tress, logs, etc… If you keep throwing your jig enough times (as I have these past few outings) you get a better feel as to what’s going on down there.
Have a good one.
