Post Surf Fishing in the Dark
I went out to the surf today and got there around 4:30am. Hiked to my spot and started fishing in the dark. There were already 3 fishermen at my spot of choice and one of them hooked up within 2 minutes of being there. Then began a steady pick all mrning until about 8 am. I got one about 12 lbs on a mickey jig. The bite is on but I don't know how long it is going to last. The fish were in small schools and if you found them you hooked up. You need to work the beachfast and be walking while you cast. There were a lot of smaller fish so i used larger baits. I lost 3 fish in the surf (smaller grade) and had one turn on my Daiwa Saltiga popper. I missed 2 good hits too. All i going to say is fish the ugly water and fish early in the morning. If you aren't on the sand by 5 am don't bother =P. I'd love to hit the surf with some fellow sjbers so pm me if you ever wanna take a crack at surf fishing. It is the most addicting fishing there is. A 5 lb bass will make you laugh after catching a 20 lb striper on the beach. Anyways. Get out there fellas. Black sand beaches with structure

Nice report, plan on doing the same this weekend (4am fishing) just south of Santa Cruz to see if my luck changes. There's fish out there but every time I go there's too many people on the beach and I'm sure they're keeping the fish away.

Great Report Chris! I never made it out there. I'm sure it's slowed down by now. There's still time in the season to get that 25 pounder. Big fish have been caught off the beaches this season. Right place at the right time!!!!!
