 Santa Cruz Wharf 10.23.11
Was out today from sun up till about 3.30 for 15 fish total. All on sabiki and all mackerel.
Beautiful weather today. Just had to get out there.
Cool thing we saw, a huge!, sun fish!!!! Just cruising along at the top! Neat to see!

Sounds fun, what did you catch on the mackerel ?
And I love Sun fish, every time I go to Monterey Bay Aquarium, I always go see the sun fish in the outer edge exhibit.

 Re: Santa Cruz Wharf 10.23.11
That may have been me? I was out there a week ago and seen about 3 guys fishing really close to shore. The closest you could get to shore on the pier.
I caught some Mack and asked them if they wanted them but they said no. I asked them what they were fishing for and they told me they were after salmon. I couldn't believe it. They were using frozen anchovies, bobbers and barb-less hooks. I didn't see them catch tho.
Said that you can sometimes see them swimming around.
I didn't see any.
Let me know if you go and get lucky!

WOW! i knew it..one of my partners told me that they've been hook up there, but they were very discrete about it. I fish pacifica peir this year a lot for salmon and its the same technique they are using there.

 Re: Santa Cruz Wharf 10.23.11
aw man..i've seen people rope'n salmon pluggin the beach for strippers using mickey jigs, spoons and cast masters all the time. Especially at R.V and Morreys at pacifica. On the peir, its a lil different technique and plus you have to deal with this.........to catch this.......

 Re: Santa Cruz Wharf 10.23.11
It aint really that bad.....once you kind of get to know the regulars on this peir, you'll soon to realize that its a big team work effort. At times, ive seen people get into it because of miss-communication and random people go on this peir and just throwin out there line, tangling and not knowing what they are doing, can stir up some trouble......I personally think its a good challenge, just because it involves a lil skill in casting and tying up your rig.
July - end of September was really hot...if ya'll dont want to go through the learning process in what i've experience as a "rookie" on this peir, feel free to P.M during those months next year....Ill show you the way...

Wait till dungy crab season opens up!! It will be madness!! With that said I will probably be amongst my fellow madmen... in maybe a few weeks when the initial madness cools down!
