I wanted to do that this year but will not be able too cause thats my sons due date.
I will for sure do it next year if they do an 8th annual tournament.
I bet it would be lots of fun.
If any of you guys end up doing it be sure to post up how you did!
Tight lines.

Did anyone participate? My son and I were out at Capitola and Seacliff from dawn till just after noon, complete skunk. Was it just my location or is surf perching during low tide just asking for a skunk.

Wait, isn't it March?!?! Sorry, think the weather threw me off...goes back to hibernation.

Yea, I'm going to try Seacliff/Rio again this Weekend when tides will be in my favor in the morning. Son and I had no trouble locating tons of sandcrabs but just couldn't seem to locate any fish. Did see alot of birds feasting on some baitfish maybe 50 feet from the shore and stalking sandcrabs in the surf, figured the perch would be doing the same. I do wonder, where the perch do go when they're not feeding.

I just checked the site. There are a little over 150 names on the list so far. The winning perch last year were the black perch. Those black perch are commonly caught near rock structure or kelp beds. That's not to say a barred surf perch couldn't give them a run for their money. The winning perch was just over 2 pounds. There are big BSP in that range caught off of Manresa Beach.

I just filled out my form and will send it out on Tuesday. Even if you don't catch a fish the get together/dinner afterwards is a lot of fun with good food and a lot of raffle prizes given away.

Hope to see you out there.

Glenn

I fished Tioga and did not get one bite. That was the day after the Tsunami Warning. The low tide was low but the ocean would slowly rise to a high tide level then go back out. it made for tuff fishing The winning Barred Surf Perch was caught off of Tioga and was about 1 1/2 lb but I'm not sure what the overall winning fish was.

Delayed report. lol

Rough day for the classic. Effin tsunami. Game plan was shot, fell back on plan B. Weighed in a couple fish, best was a 6lb 14oz striped bass (exotic division) and 14" 1lb 13oz pile perch. Didn't stand a chance - the Central Cali boys ruled the board. Apparently Monterey area relatively unaffected, some very nice fish brought in. Winning fish was a calico (I know, WTF, thats what they said, didn't see it). Think I placed 4th, which ain't good enuff. Minnow took junior division with a pig of a black perch, 15" 2lber. Picking on little 9 year old kids lol He'll be in the adult division next year, so we'll see how he hangs with the big boys 8-) .

First time doing a derby, fun stuff.
