Nice. Did you go out today? Which part did you fish at? I was in the Big Break Area today. Morning I saw the stripers were boiling but nothing over 18inch. I caught few small one and missed a good size striper on lunker punker. The bite only last from 6:30am to 7:30am so I switched to bass. I think I made the right choice, overcast this morning was great to catch LMB on top water. I caught over 15 bass today on top water, nothing over 2lb but still fun for me.

Thanks fellas. I caught that one on Saturday in the False River on the 6" Lunker Punker. Missed one that may have been bigger than that in the morning. We did run into a school of 4 lbrs and jigged them with spoons, that was fun. Then caught a bunch of shakers as well. Wasn't on fire so to speak but there were some fish here and there. Should only get better with colder water....when that happens.

My buddy Matt did a tournament Saturday. They only brought in 4 pounds, couldn't get keepers but a lot or scrapers. Then he hit the same spot yesterday, and caught an 11.5 and a 5.5, with my other buddy catching a 9.5 100 feet away from him. That water warmed up a lot yesterday so it turned on that bass bite for bigger fish.

Striper fishing is going to be kick ass this year.

man, it looks like this lunker punker is the go to for top water on the stripers...it looks like its time to go get one. anyone have experience with the plastic lunker punker? its like half the price but i'm still leaning towards the wood version since I've read that wooden lures are better, who knows. Just wondering if anyone's tried the plastic version.

My Dad would be throwing a pencil popper that had rattles, and I would be throwing the wood Punker and get more hits than him, and bigger fish. It's hard to say if it was the rattles that was causing the issue.

I haven't caught a striper on my plastic one yet but I only threw it a couple of days last year. The wood just does the job for me and it looks so damn awesome. I say, get both so you can switch it up. I am sticking with the wood until that water gets muddy.

If you are throwing it for stripers, it is imperative you change out those split rings and hooks. I lost two hogs two years ago. They bent out 3x hooks. The heartbreak is unexplainable when you bring up your bait after one of these amazing hook ups and see the hook straigtened out. You know the fish was a monster to have that strength. I have the 3x right now as soon as the fish blows up on the bait and I know I have it hooked, I back my drag off immediately.

I don't know if Denise at Coyote has the 4x hooks this year but you might want to ask her. If she doesn't have them, check tacklewarehouse. Size 2/0. Keep one Punker dedicated for the linesiders and one for the largies.

If you sign up for the Black Dog mailing list on their website, you will be emailed when they have closeouts. I got one a wood one a month ago for only 23 bucks.

I agree with changing the hooks out on any treble hook bait you plan on using for stripers. I've had 5lb schoolies straighten out hooks on a Super Spook.Thats a Nice fish Marone we need to go to San Luis soon...

Hells yeah Dmun. You and your pops should come out for the striper fest.

I forfot to mention guys, I am throwing my punker with 65 lb braid. 3x is most likely good with 20 lb mono. I like the braid because I get great action on those long casts.

I found the 4x treble hooks, but what size split ring do you recommend I should upgrade to? I am looking at the Owner hyper wire split rings.

I have no idea where this place is. I can help you out with a ride to there Hog , however, I'll have to be provided with more info on the whole deal. I'd have to rent a boat too or share cost.

Here is what it looks like guys when a striper over 10 pounds crushes a top water bait.
