Well my friends, it's off to Honolulu, Oahu for me Thursday. Sister is picking me up around noon from the airport and I'm going to stay at her place. One of my best friends is getting married at northshore, Waimea Bay. His request as a bachelor party is his best buddies and brothers to accompany him on the Kuuloa Kai for some big fish hunting. So i suppose Saturday or Sunday we're gonna "Get er done"! Man go all the way to Hawaii to fish and once again I'm going to be the only "brown man on the boat"...I'll just blend in as the deckhand.... Alright Big Aloha to all of you on the Mainland! The fishing down here on the North Shore is off the hook! We set out at 5 am June 8th, out of Haleiwa Harbor, wearing flip flops, shorts and tank tops...not to mention sunscreen. I forgot a hat so I had to adorn the regular bandana I always do. Upon meeting Captain Rusty and Firstmate, Brother Scott, I got an immediate feeling that this day would be very proserous, but I had no clue what we were in for. The trade winds were 10-15 Southern direction, with at most, a 4 foot swell, in the navy blue colored water. About 3 miles out Scott breaks out the light jigging rod with 5 small flys and reeled up a mackrall for live bait, and as soon as I figured out that we were bait fishing I immediately asked permission to grab the open rod and help getting bait. I grabed the rod and dropped down to 80 feet and bang fish on.. a double hook-up to the captains surprise...wow I guess this guy knows what he's doing is the look on their faces and I was slinging in the live bait, slightly outfishing Rusty and Scott =). Then off we go with our bait well stocked, for a 14 mile run north, rocking out to the ipod playing through an awesome sound system, playing up on the crowsnest and the lower stern and cabin. Upon arriving at the secret favorite bouy, we hook up with an immediate Mahi Mahi. Then we nail some nice eating shibi. Then all of a sudden most of the fish we were graphing disappeared from the screen and then the sharks came in to harrass our live baits and chasing our hook-ups. Getting tired of this huge shark, Captain rusty askes if I would like to catch this shark, and I jumped ay the opportunity! Hell Yeah! We chummed with a few of our shibis and upon drawing him up close I grabbed this tree trunk of a rod with several pulley line guides, and this huge shimano tiogo reel spooled with 300# flourocarbon line and a 300# cable leader. Scott hand fished for this monster and once it took the bait it was game on! Sitting my skinny butt into the fighting chair I begin to hold on for dear life as this shark make a head thrashing run about 50 yards till I pulled as hard as I could and turned him around. Pumping and cranking I begin to gain ground and fight this shark for a good 15-20 minute fight, till my arms felt like a noodle! Exhausted sore and dripping sweat, I ask my buddy Adam to relieve me in the chair and take over and have some fun too. We finnally bring this shark to the port side and see that this huge hook is deep in the gullet and decide to let him keep the hook and leader. This thing weighed about 150-175# according to Rusty and Scott! I have pics that I will post pon comming back to Cali. This was not our biggest catch of the day either! After catching a few more shibi we notice all the fish disappear again, and we see some big fish marks on the screen and we throw out a live 2 # shibi out over the side on the same rod we landed the shark on. I tell you, these shimano rods and reels are soooo sick! Got pictures of those too! I might have to convert to big game fishing now! This time we throw the shibi out by hand and the thing take off immediately on a 100 foot run straight down, running from something. Then bam fish on. Mikes turn to take the chair and Adam and I quickly insisted after the huge shark fight draining our strength. What we all brought in as a team effort was a 220# Blue Marlin. OMG! this thing was so beautiful to see. It took 3 men on hooks and me on a rope double half hitched around the bill to drag through the stern door and drag aboard. Yeah baby! Nice Ryan you are the fisherman of the Week so far, but i heard some people are catching the strippers from the beach here. Its great to see other fishing besides bass. I want to go deep sea fishign so bad, I think I might take a trip next year when I am in Mexico.

Well my friends...the water here is so pristine I have decided to extend my visit with my sis! My cousin Kaylee wants to fish from shore with me so I will get another shot at hooking something. She has a couple poles and I brought my Cabo PT31 with me spooled with 17 # p-line. Any ways I caught a few nice waves body surfing and a nice local gal. Probably jus get junk fish, but a hook up is a hook up! Might be back some time next week...jus maybe.

Well I'm back on the mainland ready for some lake fishing again. I didn't get back out fishing during my stay however the surf was totally off the hook my last 3 days. 9 ft. peel, rippin across the Ala Moana beach, from one end across to the other, inna north west direction. What a site watching the rarely seen tubes on the south shore. Sooo Sweet! Any how here a a few more pics for you all.
