Post Rod Selection
I know i may regret asking but seeking advice on surf casting upgrade for upcoming striper season. Each time I visit my local shop I get different opinions. I am on board with personal preference to make final call but thought would reach out for further inputs first.

Location: SF Baker - Ocean - Pacifica
Lures: 2 3/8 Superstrike popper, 2oz Hair Raisers, 2oz Tins n Mickies
Reel: Okuma Salina 55
Line: 30lb braid

Rods considering (10ft range):
Team Daiwa ~$180
Daiwa Saltiga ~$180
Lamiglass Tri Flex ~$230
Open to other suggestion on rods but looking at a $200 cap.

So my question more directly surrounds blank weighting for this type of setup. I am getting different opinions on whether to to go in the 1-4 or 3-6 oz lure rating for these rods (they slightly differ in exact ranges) but essentially light or heavy options.

Better to have sturdy clout to cast and load or lighter action to move the popper. Any input appreciated so i can make my mind up and get back out there!

Post Re: Rod Selection
Mork,

Got to a Tackle shop and hold a 10' - 10'.06" steelhead/salmon rod, medium heavy. For years i bought surf fishing rods. What I found with steelhead/salmon rods is they are lighter and easier to cast......all day long. When I go striper fishing I am on the move. The medium/heavy steelhead rods allows me to throw a variety of lures with ease. The action of the rods are incredible in my opinion.

Bring your reel so you can put it on the rod and see who it feels. As for brand, pick one you are confident with and stay within your budget.

I've seen guys catch stripers with old broken down rod and reels just as well as the guys with the hight end stuff.

Glenn know's what he's talking about. I'd suggest him as a reliable source.
