 Re: Poke Poling
Rick/Eurojett...any input as to the length of the pole? 10ft minimum is what I'm thinking, but just wanted to see what others were thinking/using.

 Re: Poke Poling
I started out with a short pole and found that i couldnt reach the holes i wanted to get to, especially when the tide was rising. Another thing is, you just never know how far the hole goes in , so I would have to suggest the longer the better... Right now im using an old 15ft surf rod. Its great on the length but after a while its pretty heavy.
Anyone know where to get some good bamboo?

 Re: Poke Poling
So after going back and forth on wether or not to go out and play in the rain, I decided to go for it, and im glad I did... Made it to my spot an hour befor low tide and fished around until 4, got in about 2 hours of fishing, and got a total of about 11 monkey faced eel and 2 rock fish. Found some good size crab out there too but decided against taking them... One hole I found produced 5 eel and the one fish I kept, Totally awesome!!! Temp was 60 degrees out which was warmer than expected... and the rain held off till after 430 when we where on the road home... All in all, a great day poke poling!! I kept what I was going to eat, and pass on to a friend. Took them home and fried em up... Hella good eating!!! Hope this gives you some thoughts of trying it out sometime... and hope you enjoyed. Sorry you didnt make it out Euro. Next time...

 Re: Poke Poling
I read this thread and got inspired to go out poke polling. Went to sports authority and bought a 12 foot surf pole for 20 bucks, then cut off the guides and made a poke poll. I went out thursday 12/16 at the low tide around 1:30. I went to the north jetty of HMB, and ended up with one really nice Monkey Fced eel. It was really tough to clean, but it did taste really good, I'll post pics soon.
