 Re: Perch Fishing
Glenn and all, thanks for the reports! I tried Carmel Beach as well last week and didn't get a bite either when the conditions looked promising. I fished Reservation Rd. to Cardiac Hill last Tuesday on the incoming afternoon tide, and landed three medium barreds. Tried Ft. Ord Dunes Wednesday morning and picked up seven to 1 1/2 lbs. Lately, I've been using nose hooked Slider paddle tails. Ken

 Re: Perch Fishing
Whats up everybody? Happy Friday! Any of you guys ever fished Pomponio or San Gregoria State Beach's? I'm going to be in that area and those beachs are closest to where I'm gonna be at. Gonna try for some perch. Any info on these beachs would be appriciated. I'll post a report once I get back from fishing on sunday. Tight Lines fellas! GS

 Re: Perch Fishing
Went out to Manresa on saturday as high tide was rolling in...excellent weather, but no action. Spoke to other fishermen out there, said only a few had been caught by others here and there. walked for about an hour and managed to get couple bites, but couldn't hook any!!! so frustrating.
seemed like the school was moving around or there just weren't that many perch out there, as I only got a couple hits here and there as well.
oh well, maybe better luck next time.

 Re: Perch Fishing
Hi All,
Perch fishing has been really tuff this season. I'm asking guys who fish from Santa Cruz to Big Sur and nobody has really got into good quality perch. I'm not sure what's going on but typically this is the time of year to catch them. I've been spending a lot of time at Sunset Beach and the Ford Ord State beach.
In my last 7 outings I've landed "0" perch. That is terrible. I know better than to give up because I've had my fair share of finding the schools of 2 lb perch. Like the old saying goes, That's why they call it fishing and not catching."

 Re: Perch Fishing
Hey Guys, I've fished a couple of the Sand Crab Classics and it was a great time. One year the weather was perfect and the next time out it rained like crazy. I checked the site and saw there are still spots open so more than likely I will be there. They put on a great event and the lunch and prizes are great. Best of all your entry fee goes to a local cause.
One of the big changes that weren't in place when I fished the events is you don't have to check in the morning. When I fished the event, everyone had to check in at Santa Cruz first thing in the morning. Now, you don't check in and just show up for weigh in by 2pm if you want to weigh a fish. And the other nice change is winner is determined by weight. The years I fished it was by length. Guys like myself who live in Marina can start fishing down here and work our way to Santa Cruz. The weigh in and lunch is a great social event with great prize giveaways.
Drew, Van Staal is well worth the investment if you fish a lot. It's like anything else. How many people do you know that own a nice RV or fishing boat but it never moves from their driveways. it's the same philosophy with buying anything...who cares how much you paid for it if you don't use it its a waste of money....Haaahaaa! One of the best reels for the money for surf fishing in my opinion is the Sustain. I have the older 5000 and 6000 that are 6 years old and are going strong. The only reason why I own a Van Staal is my wife bought if for me for Christmas 2 years ago. I don't thing I would have bought the bullet on my own without fishing with one first. Now that I have I would highly recommend a Van Staal....If you fish a lot! If not save your money and buy what you can afford.
Thanks for checking in and commenting now get out there and post some pictures!!!!

 Re: Perch Fishing
Hello All, I was at Palm Beach right at 0800 hours. There were several cars parked along the street so I knew the fisherman were out there. I mounted by Go Pro to my chest harness, grabbed my rod and was ready to catch my limit. I walked over the hill and saw low tide that was on the rise. The water was clean of any seaweed. I saw 3 guys to the south and one other to the north. The low tide gave me a chance to check out where the holes and depressions were. I started south and found millions of sand crabs in the area. Everything was perfect.
Who am I kidding...Not one fish!!!!! I talked to a couple of guys and they got a few bites and one fish. I'm not ready to give up. I'm going tomorrow morning...just don't know where. That makes 8 or 9 outings with no fish. I suck!!!!!
The only thing I have to offer is a nice picture of Palm Beach....
