 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Hey guys I do not do a lot of striper fishing but when I got home from work on Friday my neighbor had a huge striper on his lawn that he caught out at Manresa. His was 50lbs i didnt have a scale with me and his buddies was 36lbs. They weighed them at the beach on someone's scale. They were using these large tube like poppers that were all white with a red front and yellow eyes. After seeing those fish I am going to start heading out there. Glenn I read a lot of your posts and thanks for all of the knowledge. What are your thoughts about Manresa Beach and sorry if it spelled wrong. I just wanted to report these fish and I wish I had a camera with me because they were toads.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Here's a crappy pic of the fish I took with my phone. It was pretty windy so I didn't want to get my phone wet or anything. Skinny fish, but it was pretty long for a schoolie. Anyways... I haven't heard much about any bites at any of the spots I frequent. I keep hearing about fish being caught between Monterey and Santa Cruz but I just don't know how much I buy into all of the reports. Maybe New Brighton... Still waiting on that spot to do somethin for me.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
JB,
I 've been going to Manresa for the past month and have been killing the big 2lb perch. That beach has been producing large stripers. Not in great numbers but the big fish are there. I've had several solid hits on my small perch grub but the hook is to small to get good penetration.
The guys I've seen with fish were throwing pencil popper type of lures. I guess the fly guys do real well fishing the holes on calm mornings. I believe those fish were caught out there...
There is a Manresa Camp ground. Go a little further down the road and you will see the Maresa State Beach parking lot. The parking lot is visible from the street.
Hope this helps.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Fished Manresa for perch. While I was out there a large and I mean large flock of birds were moving my way. They were coming from the Capitola area. I would be exaggerating if I said there were a million birds but there were a lot of them following a large bait ball. The birds were just out of my casting distance with me perch gear. I knew for sure that stripers had to be in there somewhere.
As the school past me a group of about 50 birds started working the surf about 10 feet out. By now the birds were about 200 yards past me. There was a lone bait fisherman by the railroad trestle. Me and another guy watched as the birds past him....and sure enough all I could see is him setting the hook on something!!!!! I knew it had to be good because he started walking along the b each. It took him about 10 minutes to get the fish in. A nice 32" striper.
I'm not quite sure where the stripers have been. I know the school is cruising the bay but they're not stopping in one particular place for very long. They definitely have not been at Marina Beach in big numbers.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
I actually fished New Brighton yesterday and the bait balls were all over! It looked like an Alfred Hitchcock movie with all the birds in the sky! I had one hook up which later spit the hook and I saw 2 under sized guys get pulled but that was all. I did also manage a huge 15 1/2" BSP on a Daiwa SP minnow. That was very cool.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
How is the evening bite out on the coast? Or is it only in the Mornings? Ive been wanting to go but don't know too many places out there. Wouldn't mind catching some Saltwater Stripers or Perch, any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
When May 2010 rolled around I thought for sure this was going to be a great striped bass season. It started out like 2009 where we were catching a lot of smaller fish. Unfortunatley 2010 never really panned out for the schools to settle down in one area.
Everyone where I went and everyone who I talked to had the same story....The fish are out there but not in any great numbers. A lot of people saw the school travelling up and down the coastline but they never stopped long enough to get a consistent bit out of them. Not for me at least.
With that being said, I did run across some guys who said they ran into the school of fish and I don't doubt them. What I was hoping for was another banner year like 2009 when you saw 35 - 40 guys lined up on the beach all waiting for the school to come by.
I guess that's why they call it fishing and not catching. This is the time of year I transition into striper fishing from my toon at the Forebay. Instead of starting a new thread I'll just post any info here.
I've caught fish as late as October along the beaches but I'm not convinced that is going to happen. Thank you guys who have checked out the post and thanks to the guys who have posted.
If you're out there and catching post some pictures!!!!

Naw Glenn Start a new one titled "Forebay Fishing Report" by Glenn. That way I dont have to go "fishing" for reports in the salt area for a forebay bite...

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Just when I thought the season was done..... No reports of fish caught off of Marina Beach but I've witnessed nice 20 lb fish caught off of Manresa State Beach. You have to work for them but the stripers are still hanging around the Watsonville/Santa Cruz area. I was fishing Saturday with a grub looking for the big perch. A guy next to me, about 10 feet, away was telling me a story of catching two stripers the weekend before when his pole bent in half. You guessed it....striper! He was using small sand crabs and letting his line drift with the current into a hole.
