 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
I have two on my phone but I have no idea how to upload them still. Fat stripers out there they appear to be very healthy. The fish were biting for about 2 hours and the spot I was fishing was really quiet considering how many people I've seen out fishing the last couple of days. I have seen fish pulled up here the last couple of times I've been out so I think people know. Nevertheless, 3/4 oz. hair raisers in white and chartreuse have been the go ahead bait and bombers at night. Slow retrieves on the way back. BTW, JohnyBravo, I apologize for not PMing you, I do most of my posting from my phone and I realize I sent you a message that didn't get sent because of ATT's internet connection at my house. I will most likely be going out tomorrow after work so if anyone wants to meet up let me know. None of my friends are necessarily fit or prepared gear wise to surf fish so I'm always lookin for a partner! If you need any 'suggestions' on where to fish PM me. I don't want to spot burn too badly but I'm happy to help out.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
I'm going to try to head up there after work tonight just to keep an eye on where things are happening. When I cleaned the striper yesterday I found smelt, a shiner, and grass shrimp in the fish's belly. The thing appeared to have been gorging itself on smaller ocean dwellers haha. That makes me think the fish are gonna be around for awhile, so hopefully I'm correct for once. If you want to make a weekend trip let me know Glenn, I'd love to spend a day fishing with you, I bet I could learn a lot.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
nice fish sj! man...following up on this post makes me want to try something new this year and learn to fish for striper. So what kind of gear does it take to fish for stripers other than lures? I have rods that are 8, 12, 15ft, would these work? They have 20 & 25 lb test line. I'm going to guess that I need higher strength lines, huh? Anyways, I guess I should start by reading up on it, but any starter info would be appreciated. Thanks.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Just got back. Got one today on a hair raiser. Same spot. I didnt take any pics cause i released the fish but like i said theyre there. And as for tackle ive been using a 10 foot rod and 14 lb test with a 20 lb leader. I habe a 12 ft rod too with 25 or when i need to get 100 yard casts if the fish arent close. Get out there guys. The fish are starting to run and the big boys shouldnr be far behind!

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
other than lures, is it possible to catch using bait? if so, what rig and type of bait would you recommend? also, how far out are you casting the line? is there a preferred distance or just as far as I can chuck it??

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
I dont normally use bait because I cant cover enough water but it depends on the current. Glenn is much more knowledgeable onthat than I am. For casting i always throw as far as I an but most bites are close to shore. I'd say 30 yards is fine when the fish are in close.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Hey Bang Bang,
Majority of stripers are caught close to shore like SJ said. They're running close to the waters edge eating sand crabs (mole crabs) which are their favorite. Whenever you clean a striper caught close to shore their stomachs will be full of sand crabs.
Bait fisherman use a variety of baits and all will catch striped bass: mackrel , sardines, anchovies, blood worms grass shrimp, store shrimp from your local grocery store, small live surf perch and sand crabs.
That's the beauty of striper fishing when the bite is on......they'll eat just about anything. Lure choice it just as broad. Throw what you have confidence in.
I've been on the beach where the only ones catching fish were guys using bait. Then I've been on the beach where the only guys catching fish where guys using lures. Then there are the days when the bites on and everyone catches fish!!!!!!!
Don't make it hard on yourself just get something rigged up and go!!!!!! I've seen every kind of lure, bait, tackle set up and rod/reel combo catch fish......
Glenn

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Hey guys...thanks for the info, I really appreciate it. If I chose to go with baitfishing, what would be an ideal rig setup to go with and what size hooks? Normally when I fish for perch, I use the bottom rig with 2 hooks about 18" apart. Would that rig work or would you recommend another?
