 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
A few stripers are still being caught off of Del Monte Beach in Seaside. Hope to get out this weekend to give a first hand update. A couple of schoolie size fish were caught off the beaches in Carmel. All second hand info but from reliable sources. Keep checking in. Hope to have some first hand info this weekend.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Nothing new has been happening. A busy time of year at work....not much time for fishing. No word on the stripers. I'm starting to think that big run is over. I would have thought they might come back through but as of now no such luck.
May be time to switch over to barred surf perch gear.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Hello Everyone! Work and the kitchen re-model has taken a priority to fishing....so my wife says....Hahaaaaaaa! Just kidding she is my biggest supporter when it comes to fishing. There has been a lot of bait fish in the bay close to shore. When I take my 5 year old to school and we're early we stop by the beach to check it out. There have been pods of dolphins coming into the bay in the morning cruising along the shore playing in the waves. Very exciting site to see even for someone like me who has lived on the peninsula all my life.
Fisherman have been still been catching a few stray fish south of the Marina Beach parking lot but nowhere near what it was like earlier in the season. I'm not sure if we are going to get another run of fish before the season is really over...when the temperature cools down.
The water's looking good and the barred surf perch and getting pretty fat. I've doing pretty good with the BSP along Del Monte Beach in Seaside/Monterey. I'll post pics on my next outing.
Hope all of you are doing well. Can you believe it's already September....

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
I think it's safe to say that the stripers have pretty much moved north in search for freshwater. No luck and no reports of anyone catching stripers. Weather is starting to cool off which means the perch action should start to heat up. Perch never leave the Monterey shorelines it's just that the bigger fish move in with the cooler weather.
I know this started out as a striped bass thread but now the season is over I'll just transition into the perch stuff.
Remember, perch "typically" feed close to shore....very close to shore. Don't make the mistake of throwing out to far. Work the grub all the way to the beach. A strike could come when you least expect it. If there is no action up close then throw out a little further. I'll post more info and pics as things start to pick up.
Thanks for checking in and reading!

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Iron Man,
Your bass rod will work but a word of caution. Any freshwater reel will be ruined if you get salt water in it. Keep the rod and invest in a saltwater reel. Shimano Stradic or Quantum Cabo are good mid range reels. Any saltwater casting reel will work too. Simple carolina rig...main line of choice, egg sinker(1 oz, 1 1/2 oz or 2 oz) depends on type of water fished, bead, swivel, leader of choice 18" - 24" and #4 or #2 baitholder. Slip on a Kalins 1 1/2" perch grub, motoroil with red flake and you're good to go. This is the simplest set up to get you going quick and easy.
Pick a beach and start walking. Don't worry about casting out to far because perch are "normally" feeding close to shore. Some guys like fishing 2 hours before the high tide and a couple hours after the tides peak. I'll fish first thing in the morning and in the evening regardless of what the tide is doing as long as it's not a minus tide.
All Monterey/Santa Cruz beaches are productive. You have to keep moving until you find them. Tried to keep it brief and to the point. If it doesn't make sense let me know. There are some perch fishing sites where guys have posted pics of productive waters and answer all the questions.
Let us know how you do and post some pics of the perch...I'm sure you'll find them. Perch fishing is just starting to get good. With the colder months around the corner it will be great.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Thanks HH!! I've learned so much from you guys on this site about LMB fishing. Just trying to give my 2 cents about something I know. Surf fishing sure passes the time when things at the lake get slow. You need minimal equipment...most bass fisherman has what it takes with the exception of a decent saltwater reel. Simple carolina rig will get you started. Thanks for reading...I'll keep posting as long as someone is getting something from it.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
Making me think of trying it out. When I think of fishing beaches in California, I think of cold. Might have to get out there and just do it! Must be phycological for I seem more comfortable and warmer on the boat. Good posts and Information from you.

 Re: Marina Beach Stripers
ABM, I could not have said it better! The winter months are more productive for the surf perch and I won't lie....It can get cold. A good pair of waders and all is good. When it gets right down to it we all fish for the "tatallity" of the experience. Thanks for chiming in guys.
While I've got your attention....Make sure we all keep up the support of JimJr and his family!!!! Words of encouragement and support go along way!!!!!!!
Jim Jr. and Sr, If you're peaking in....Hope all is well guys. Prayers to Junior and your family!!!!!!!!
