I switch to the last lure in my bag of tricks.....White/Red pencil popper. 7:35.....nothing! 7:45.....nothing! 7:50......FISH ON!!!!!!!!! Rod tip bent down, I set the hook, the fish jumps all the way out of the water and the rest is history. Made it home by 8 AM.

The first thing my wife said was, "Finally!!!!!!!!"

Sweet duder! Not only a fish, but a top water fish!

I fish for striped bass out of the O'Neil Forebay in my toon. The excitement top water action creates is incredible. Actually watching the fish make several passes at your lure and not eat the dang thing is enough to cause a nervous breakdown.

This morning the ocean was as bit rough with a little wind. I was still able to get the popper out there and keep an eye on it. That fish ate it on the first try. When I set the hook it came flying out of the air which was a sight to see.

I can't wait until they come back around in large numbers. The fish are out there you just have to really work for them. I'll keep you guys posted when I hear something.

Hey Mark,
As you know the conditions at Marina Beach can change with a blink of an eye. The wave action there is normally very rough. I've had very good results with casting 1 1/2 - 2 oz Hair Raisers. Most fish are caught very close to shore but with my set up, it gives me a little latitude to reach out further if I need to. This is especially true when the fish are schooling. They are just out of my reach if I throw anything less than 1 1/2oz.

I've been out a couple of times last week once in the morning and once in the evening. Not very many fisherman. A nice 15 lb was caught on sand crab. The fish are scattered around but they are being caught here and there. I've been throwing my pencil popper a lot. The water has been really nice to throw top water.

I'm working until 7 am but will be out there this morning as soon as I get off. Hope that answered your question.

Glenn

Hello All,

My Dad went to a beach north of Pacifica yesterday (6/28). The stripers are out there. Not in big numbers but he did talk to guys who were catching fish. One person told him that the fish are along all of the beaches near Pacifica, morning being the best times.

Lures and Bait are getting them. I would go out there but....WORK!

Maybe next weekend.

Fish in the 22" - 27" range are still being caught from Seaside to Moss Landing....Just not in great numbers like when the big school was in. Fish are caught everyday just not as many. It still worth putting in the time. You just have to work harder to find them. Hoping to get out this weekend. I'll keep you all posted.

My wife came home and told me there were guys lined up all along the wharf in Monterey. That could only mean one thing....They're catching fish!!!!!! Million Dollar Question is What kind of fish. Made a phone call and found out that the Mackrel and I think he said sardine or anchovies are running around there.

That's not bad news because those fish are basically bait fish. Hopefully the school of bass figure that out and move back in. Some stripers are still being caught but it's been very spotty. I'd much spend a day throwing a lure over a lot of other things.

Nice work Chris!!!!!

Leave some of them out there for me..... I've been working a lot and haven't had a chance to get out. Sounds like the limit was a nice pair. Mickey Jigs is one that I throw a lot.

POST SOME PICTURES!!!!!!! Like the old saying goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words!"

Thanks for posting Chris... I told you. You just have to put in the time.

Scattered fish are back in the area. Good sources called me and said they are catching them again. Not in big schools but the fish being caught are in the 20 lb range. No specific spot. Reports from Seaside, Marina to the mouth of the Salinas River.

School must still be up north......or maybe not!!!!!!!

hey ive been dedicatong 3-4 days a week at pacifica, specifically linda mar. You need heavier gear out there because the water is a little bit rough. I recommend using 3-4 oz mickey jigs with a white bucktail or gibbs poppers. If u get there lok for birds and if you dont see birds fish the shallow side in front of taco bell. U need to get the lure out 50+ yards. If you cant get it past the breakers youre wasting your time. Get there at 5:30 btw and pm me if u have anymore questions. I'm gonna be out of town this weekend but i may go monday morning and evening.

Ps sometimes the surfers are dicks so try to avoid them or bring a big bait knife to shut them up. Jk lol

Great info SJ! Thanks for contributing!

I've been fishing the beaches in Seaside for barred surf perch. Pregnant females are showing up on Del Monte Beach near the condos. To my surprise, guys were out there throwing lures for striped bass. Apparently no one has taken the time to call me to let me know the stripers are still in the bay! LOL!!!!! Guys are catching striped bass in the 20 - 30 lb range. Not many fish are being caught but the ones that are are big!

Nothing to crazy over but the fish are still around if you want to put the time in. I'll keep you posted. My next outing will be back to Del Monte Beach to throw a pencil popper. I let you know what happens.
