Oh boy. I'm flying South for the Winter guys. Heading down to Big Island Hawaii for the first time for some sight seeing, car camping, fishing, and relaxation. I'll be on the Kona side mostly.

While I'm down there what can I fish for? Where can I fish?

If anyone happens to know. I'd love to hear your responses.

Whatever bites . You know what I had a blast doing was spear fishing. I caught dinner 2 nights in a row and man was it good. The best part was, I had a blast doing it. You can pick up the gear at walmart or even the CVS.

Spearfishing sounds fun, but I can't swim

I figure i'm just gonna carolina rig some shrimp, squid, or those berkely sandworms and see what bites.

When I was in Kona, I only fished blue water, so can't help out with shore fishing. I did fish Kauai with a light action spin rod and small lures. Lots of fun, and so many species. You have a chance at small jacks, papio, which are a lot of fun. Theres lots of parrot fish and other pretty critters that will eat a Gulp or plastic bait on a C-rig. Kona has lots of volcanic rocky shore, and good jack fishing, from what I know. Its a fun island. Try to get out to do bluewater if you have the time and money. Some of the local captains can be reasonable, and the fishing can be great. I didnt get the marlin I fish for out of Kona, but did manage a 40lb wahoo....and go to the local fish markets if you have the chance. Best seafood I've ever eaten was in Hawaii.
