Fishing in North Lake Tahoe/Incline Village Crystal Bay
I'm going to be heading up to North Lake Tahoe, near Incline Village Crystal Bay for labor day weekend. Anyone familiar with this area? I just wanted to know what I can expect to catch up there so I can prepare necessary tackle and bait. The only other lake nearby that I can see is Marlette Lake. Any information about fishing this area would be appreciated . Thanks!

Re: Fishing in North Lake Tahoe/Incline Village Crystal Bay
Was just up there a couple weeks ago and had to go through the same research. Caveat - i got skunked!
- Trout (brown, rainbow) are the big draw in that area. - Lakes nearby: Martis (recently reopened, supposedly trout only), Boca, Stampede, Prosser, all just outside of Truckee. - Prosser, Boca and Stampede are all supposed to have smallmouth but no LMB - Donner Lake is supposed to have big Kokanee salmon.
Check with the guy that runs the fishing department at Mountain Hardware in Truckee. I can't remember his name but he's very helpful and has a lot of local knowledge. Maybe call him before you go up.

Thanks Muymal, appreciate all the info. By any chance did you fish Lake Tahoe? I hear its not that great from shore, but seeing how the cabin is only minutes away from the lake, I was thinking of fishing for some trout in the mornings.

There are bass (Smallmouth/Largemouth) in Lake Tahoe too. They are hard to find but when you do you could have some fun. Tubes, D-shot, samll jigs...could be fun!

Oh really? I was doing all kinds of research and only found info on trout. I am guessing the bass numbers are low and not many people fish for them there? I will definitely give it a shot...thanks for the heads up bro, I was about to leave all my bass gear at home.

so how'd you do?
kinda late in the game here, but i'm headed out to south lake tahoe this weekend and i'm doing some "research" haha
any luck on trout/bass from the main lake?
i'll likely bring some kastmasters, small raps, spinners and spoons along with powerbait/eggs.
tight lines!

Re: Fishing in North Lake Tahoe/Incline Village Crystal Bay
When I went during Labor Day weekend, anywhere that looked fishable from shore was packed with people very early on in the day as it was hot. There were lots of kids catching crawfish near the rocky areas, so I imagine theres gotta be some fish there, but from what I've been told/heard, it sounds like you need to take a boat out to catch something on the main lake...well at least in the N. Tahoe area.
Good luck.

Unfortunately bass fishermen will stock bass in the most pristine of places. Don't be surprised to find them in lake tahoe or some high elevation lake in the sierra wilderness.

sweet! what do you normally use?
anything used i'm sure would need to be fished really slow, right?

Re: Fishing in North Lake Tahoe/Incline Village Crystal Bay
I took a trip to Lake Tahoe last summer. I was mostly fly fishing in different places around the area, I did try and catch some of those introduced smb/lmb in Lake Tahoe but I couldn't find any. The sandy bottom/rocky structure is supposed to be a great spawning ground for smallmouth bass. Look for them at the right spawning depth and you may get lucky. You can do your part and help erradicate them from Lake Tahoe, they impose serious environmental risks to the lake.
