Father's Day Fishing Trip - Capitola
Took my son out on a skiff this morning for a combo Father's Day and elementary school graduation gift. We got on the rockfish pretty early and then around 10am my son was struggling with his pole as I brought in another gopher, when I looked over to see what kind of rocky he had a nice legal butt!
Bite slowed down and I had to cut one of my shrimp flies off, tied on a bare hook with a small swimbait...5 mins later HARD pull. thought I was snagged again but this snag decided to run out some line, fish on! 26" ling gave my $29 Cabela's bass pole a run for its money but man that was fun. funny thing, had my son pull in his line to help me bring in my fish, and that greedy bastard nabbed my son's fly on its way up and then proceeded to run pulling line from both our reels.
All and all, a great Father's Day.

Re: Father's Day Fishing Trip - Capitola
awesome stuff! i did a small fishing day for father's day but went out to berkeley pier with almost all of my family including son, daughter, wife, dad, mom and two brothers. we only got on some perch (25-30 or so) but it was a really fun day!
i was out on cap pier last saturday and seen some people bring in their own boats. do you guys think a 12' aluminun boat would be safe out on the wharf area?

i dont see why not but launch early and be back in by 12 noon, in a matter of 1 hr it can get crazy windy out there and current picks up. so fish early.

Re: Father's Day Fishing Trip - Capitola
80 bucks for the full day and you can leave as early as 7am, split it between friends and its much cheaper per person. If you need a fishing partner and want to split the cost let me know! i'm in! send me a pm.

Re: Father's Day Fishing Trip - Capitola
They upped their price to $80 a day. Still not bad and there seems to be alot of action going on now. PM if there's an open seat

Re: Father's Day Fishing Trip - Capitola
heading out to capitola for the first time tomorrow, gonna be out on the rental boat. any advice as to areas I should cover for rockfish or halibut? also, where would be a good place to try and catch some live bait using a sabiki rig? any help would be appreciated. thanks.
