 CRAB SEASON is almost here!
Bangers and I have been waiting for the season to start for months. Mark your calendars: Nov 6.
We've only been a few times, thanks to Tamster who showed us the way, but it's tons of fun and really easy.
If anyone's interested in joining, Bangers and I will be working Pacifica pier all winter. We love us some crab. LOL

Re: CRAB SEASON is almost here!
Hi, Skunk, thanks for telling us the news. I am confused about it. What is the "crab" for crab season? I thought we can catch rock crabs all year long, or did you mean Dungeness crab? Don't you need commercial license and owned a vessel to catch them? Sorry about the noob question.

Bangers is on the money. Dungie season opens 11/6. You don't need a commerical license to grab them and you don't need a license at all if you're off a pier.

Re: CRAB SEASON is almost here!
Thanks for the info. Is the crabbing area restricted in the open season? Can I crab in SF or only certain piers?

Uhhhh I don't really know about all that. You'll have to check the regs but I think you can fish from the shore as well. Also, I think there's a reg about not being able to fish within the bay but I am not sure about that either.

Re: CRAB SEASON is almost here!
yea, i would definitely look into that. we're new to this and all, but i've been hearing from other people that you can't crab fish inside the bay and it seems like theres only a limited number of places around here where you can go crabbing. also, keep in mind, if you fish from shore, you will need a fishing license. good luck.

Re: CRAB SEASON is almost here!
This is what I found on the 2010 fishing regulations as far as acceptable locations.
Dungeness crab may not be taken from or possessed if taken from San Francisco Bay and San Pablo Bay, plus all their tidal bays, sloughs and estuaries between the Golden Gate Bridge and Carquinez Bridge.

Re: CRAB SEASON is almost here!
yea, thats what we use, crab snares. definitely more fun than just throwing out a crab pot sitting around waiting for it. most places sell snares for around $5-8. I suggest you pick up at least a couple extras as you will lose some, either by snags or simply the rock crabs breaking away at the cage.
