 Re: crab season
Heading out from Pillar Point in the am Saturday. Plan on motoring out 9 1/2 mi. out to our deep string and stacking the pots on deck for a move. They are not fishing well deep...just rock crab and starfish! Will be adding them to the shallower string of pots, and adding an additional 4 pots for a long string of (16) pots at 200 feet. The Harbor is really busy with the commercial pots being moved around to stacked on decks. Most boats are already stacked and ready to drop if they didn't drop today. Can't leagally pull till 1201 am Saturday morning. Reports of this years run is small sizes. Going to be a lot of measuring and sorting this year! Hope early reports are wrong! Sport prefishing has turned out mostly 6-7 inchers. A few 8's being found but not many! All the crab are clean, but make sure the rear leg shell is hard not soft to ensure full developement of the meat. When the shell is soft it generally indicates flesh not fully developed and possibly hollow or half full after cooking. Pray I bring in (50) tomorrow for that is our goal...

 Re: crab season
Get ready with the bread SR. Fresh Dungeness on the boat tomorrow. We had a tremendous day out there! Swell at 6 feet and calming. Winds died down just in time for our departure from port. As I cast off the lines, the wind was down and the flags at the hotel were hanging dead. Always a good sign, for if the flags are up and waving, don't go out! Well, we motored out with a crew of four counting the skipper. Heading out 9.5 miles to the deep string of (6) pots @ 250 ft. Pulled and boxed 39 Dungeness Crab on flat seas. Imediately off for the 200 ft string of (6). I knew those would be loaded as usual, and they were. Rebaited each one and dropped them right back. I was a sad deck boss today...had to recount 3 times, for after pulling 80 i was loosing count. Best part of the day was switching duties with the skipper and him on the rail and me at the wheel. Got really close to the bouy and he double dipped and still came up empty. Had to come about, but he got it on the very next try, and onto the puller. After a day of crabbing, our catch was over 80, brought home the 40 largest and then picked muscles to end an epic day on the water! ![greenface [green]](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)

 Re: crab season
Had to get out there again this day! Skipper called and woke me up at 8am this morning! Made a quick run out and pulled (3) pots from our shallow string. We were pressed for time but wanted more crab tonight! Swell was about 1 foot at most no wind. Like a lake. Had zero drift today...made for excelent crabbing in the Pacific. Our pull count (3) pots was 59 Dungeness pulled...Pot #'s 9, 11, & 12. Pot #9 was hot again today for a pull of 28 Dungeness Crab by itself, all commercial grade and better. Tosed 39 keepers over the side...jus had room for 2 limits. Only a two man crew today...could have used 3-4 more fishermen on deck with me! Max capacity on board is (7). I estimate today could have been a 150 pull count day for our (12) pot string...Another epic day crabbing out of Pillar Point Harbor.

 Re: crab season
Just spoke with JR. Says he wasnts to and is ready to go out with me possibly Thursday if the weather comes down. I thought of calling him zipperhead at San Luis, but felt it was still too soon to make jokes until he is fully recovered. After that it is no mercy! I will speak my mind. Jus want him 100% before i razz him. I am honored to have given JR. his first taste of crab in his "Hillbilly" lifestyle! Dude! buy a solar system from me and my partner for power up there. Solar Winds Renewable Energies. Anyone looking to add solar panels for power call me up. Business still growing, after 6 years! Commercial, residential, farms and motor homes. Let me bring power to you! Picture from offshore...
