Post capitola pier: any recent info?
hey all, went out to santa cruz wharf yesterday, but didnt have much luck.

couple small king fish and saw a lady catch the largest jack smelt ever earlier on, but that was it, really.

i've heard that ppl are catching rock fish off of the capitola pier's skiffs, but dont really want to take a bout out.

would rather fish the pier or surf. specifically perch.

anyone have any recent luck in the area?

trying to get out there again this saturday.

thanks!

tight lines

thats on the plan, but wasnt too sure if the capitola area is producing from the beach/surf. also wanted to see if anything was being caught at the pier in case we decide to stick around that area.

i would assume that halfmoom bay would be more productive for surf perch from the beach/surf rather than the capitola area, right?

what do you think?

just want to get into som fish man. it's been a while. haha!

well, started at pescadero. stuck around for about an hour or so with no hits. it was beautiful though. lots of seals for the small piece of beach. quite a few birds too so i know the fish were there, but i think the seals did us in.

was getting snagged a bit too with non-visible weeds.

we then hit the lighthouse area down south from pescadero. there was a perfect spot where as others described would hold perch, but i tried that for an hour and a half without any luck.

called it quits for the surf and headed to capitola pier.

i caught one small perch and a few tiny sand dabs and my son caught quite a few sand dabs and a bull head. no one else caught much except for an older guy. he caught about 2 small king fish.

on our way out, we saw guys coming in with rock fish and a REALLY nice ling! beautiful color!!!!

oh, well. time well spent with my son and a beautiful day on the coast.

was also finally able to use my st. croix and wavespin 4000. really good combo! i had doubts, but being out there with the 10' 6" rod made a world of difference!

got a couple of pics that i'll post on my original post for perch gear. http://www.sanjosebass.com/forums/new-surf-rod-your-opinions-4674-75.html
