 Re: Alviso Slough
yeah the dumbarton bridge area's water is pretty salty, where as the alviso area is really close to all the stream and river run-off so there's fresh water coming in. We used cut herring and sardines with a good 3oz weight. Stay away from any kind of shrimp as bait, they didn't want that stuff.... good luck out there

 Re: Alviso Slough
it's probably in response to the massive herring spawn in the bay this year. the sturgeon are keyed in on herring. there is a good bite going in the south bay near dumbarton and also up north in san pablo bay near the pumphouse. mud shrimp are producing fish in the north bay. remember there is no gaffing allowed of sturgeon of any kind and keep in mind the slot limit: white sturgeon must be between 46"-66" in length. daily bag limit is 1 fish per person and 3 fish annually. you must have a sturgeon report card if you plan on keeping white sturgeon. there no take on green sturgeon of any size. thanks for the report sam-o. good luck everyone.

 Re: Alviso Slough
try fisherman's warehouse in cupertino or lane's baits in alviso, right by the marina... also the bite was best on the high outgoing tide so try to time it good

 Re: Alviso Slough
Hey Sam is there any shore access out there?? I've been there b4 but it's been like ten years or so and I thought there was sone trails along the water. Or do u think it would be a waste of time even trying from shore??

 Re: Alviso Slough
well.... yes and no. We were checking that out while we were there, and could see people very close to us at some of the spots where we were hooking up, but you'd have to bring a bike to get out there unless you're ok with a mile or two walk out. Then we were thinking about how we'd land the fish once we hooked up because the banks are really soft and marshy, or muddy... it would take waders or something. Maybe park at the Alviso Marina with the car, unhook the bike and explore the trail for a ten or twenty minute ride, leaving your gear in the car. If you see a promising spot, shoot back and grab your stuff
