What do you guys think of a 12' boat being dropped from the Capitola pier?

Too small? I know the boats that are for rental there are 16' long, but would the 4' make that much of a difference?

And relateive to kayaks, they're about the same size...

I've been launched from the pier w/ my 12' aluminum before , it's kinda sketchy depending on the water conditions, but doable.

do you go alone? and do you anchor or just drift?

We usally drift. I should say that I've never done that well on that side of the bay, a few cod & a few good Halibut hits.

Have you done better elsewhere on your 12 footer?

Monterey area from the harbor to the hotel & out to the whistle buoy has been good to me.
