I agree the great outings are not in the winter time, but bass can still be found deep and slow. I really like to use a little scent and do my best to retrieve slow, slow, slow, usually a robo worm, and did I say slow. Don't let the cold weather stop you from hunting down some bass. Good luck.

I don't believe that the DFG or the SCC parks will stock Steven's Creek with trout. I also don't think you're going to get much action trying for bass with powerbait and marshmellows. If you don't know the lake, try nightcrawlers. At least you'll have a chance of catching something, whether it is bass, trout, catfish, or crappie. I would suggest going to a lake with stocked trout. Does anyone know the link for the Santa Clara County fish stocking program?

Nice article! I agree, Coyote is a very tough place to fish. But, at the same time it is very rewording with double digit fish. My personal best came out of Coyote back in 2008, an eight pound largemouth.
I will never forget that day.

There have been many days that I've spent 8+ hours and didn't get a bite. The interesting thing is, in a way it motivates me to go out again and try to figure out the patterns.

I totally enjoy this place.

Tight Lines!

Great article on an awesome site! I'll be checkin in often to get more info on local lakes. Planning on hitting up Coyote and fishing from the bank on 11/1. Will try some cranks and jigs.

Haven't fished in a while on the local lakes, but your site has me excited about my outing.

Happy Fishing!!!

Hey Kenny, Uvas is awesome from the lake. The fish tend to be in the smaller range but there are some toads in there. Uvas is one of the few lakes in the Bay Area that you can fish 24 hours. Also, it can only be fished from the bank as there are no watercraft allowed (mussel issue). Good luck and tight lines.

AGREED! I have had great outings the last few weeks at SJ area lakes. Mostly brush hogs and topwaters right now, but once that water gets below 58 here, it's over until mid to late Feb. How is UVAS from the bank?? Is that the one open 24hrs so you can get there early???

Like David, this is almost my first time on SJBass. Got the email about the updated website and thought I'd look at the forum. We went to Coyote in Sept. for a quickie campout. The Wife Unit doesn't like critters much so we had to have a motorhome...no more tents. It was GREAT! Electricity & water hookups and we had the campground to ourselves for one of the three nights. Saw turkeys (the feathered kind), lots of deer, and while sitting outside the MH trying to read a book (smoke break) in that dim MH light, a coyote walked up within 5 feet of me before we saw each other. All within a few minutes of the Silicone Pit!!! Oh yeah, this is a fishing forum....... with the non-fishing
Wife along, I was only able to spend about an hour beating the southwest to central west side of the lake into a spinnerbait froth. BTW, you're welcome, for all those weeds I cleared out of the south end. Saw several little guys chase the spinnerbait up to about two feet of water and then take off. Too bright, not enough cover for them to chomp down. Since was only one obvious stick up piece of cover
along that side, I hiked up to the reed patch about midway along the west side. Took about 10 casts but I found a little 2+ guy in the
reeds on the outside edge. Since the Wife never goes with me to Delta to actually see me catch anything, I held it up and yelled halfway
down the lake that I caught one! I have to admit that the yell was intended to be heard by the guys in the bass boat right across the lake that hadn't caught anything since I started fishing. Looked like they were drowning plastics or maybe jigs off the east shore a bit. If I wasn't so lazy, I would have tied on a jig or a worm and found the big 'un next to those reeds or just further out. Since the sun was out, I was back casting past the reeds and bring the s'bait north past the reeds so the guys wouldn't have much time to see what it was, figuring they'd be facing away from the sun in that shallow water. Matt, from last year, if you're still chasing fish on Coyote, maybe some of this is helping?
The sunlight didn't let me see any dropoffs along this 1/4 of the shoreline but I found some by letting the s'bait sink a few times. Getting high up on the shoreline without the sun in your face, you should be able to figure out where the shore continues to slope down, creating some sharper drops. Once done, you just gotta find out how deep they are right then.

If it wouldn't provide so much humor for all of you, I'd take my boat next time and tr showing off, just y to launch it with the motorhome. Coyote seems like a great lake. It sure is an easier drive than all the way to the Delta every trip. Now that I've found this website, maybe I can try some of the south bay places that y'all have been fishing. If any of you were the guys in the single bass boat on the weekend after Labor Day, I wasn't showing off, just needling you. >:-) Nice little lake, great campground, close to home, few water fleas (only one ski boat w/o boombox speakers), nice head ranger, lots of wildlife, and some fish....doesn't get much better'n that! I'm sure the place can be a zoo in the summer, but it was a nice stay that weekend. I'm not much of a tourney-type, last one was a Nut Case Classic on Clearlake in '89(?), but I hope to see some of you out there.

Welcome Matt. I could go into great detail but your question may best be suited for our forums. Also, it sounds like you may be fishing for trout, and I am not sure how often they stock Steven's Creek. But like I said, someone in the forums may be able to help you out regardless of what species you're looking to catch (trout and/or bass). Good luck and tight lines!
